Marisol Torres Gaxiola. 7/2010. Cuernavaca, Mexico.
I know ‘Sol’ (that’s how -we- her friends call her) since junior high, we became really good friends and for the longest time she was my very best friend. Now she is an architect and a very smart entrepreneur; and about this I just have to share this piece of her story: she designed and build her house, a beautiful house in Cuernavaca (Mexico) with cozy gardens and a fireplace, the kind of house that you usually see on architectural books; however the economy in Mexico is as difficult (if not more difficult) than in USA. She saw herself with less work that usual, so she came up with the idea of transforming the lower level of her house into a ‘boutique‘ restaurant / bar, and so she did. The now restaurant / bar looks really nice and ‘classy’, needles to say the food is really good; she has a couple or chefs working for her and honestly (we has breakfast with her) they are great! I wish her the best of lucks with all my heart.

WOW! What can I say? Alex was a complete challenge for me; however, I think I did pretty well! It is not easy to photograph action shot, especially when I wanted not just to capture the action of the moment, but also Alex’s beauty and personality. The three (w/ her horse) of us worked really hard for a few hours until we both were happy with the results. She is a talented Bareback Rider and her bravery is not charlatan, she is natural on her horse, like an extension of her body. Really fantastic!
The Pastor Girls
Not many of us get to say that we grew up very close to our grandmothers and very few get to say that about their Great-Grandmothers. I just could not miss the opportunity of photographing these 4 generations of women. I have the good fortune of knowing them well. Great-grandma’ Pastor at her 86 years of age is so lucid, strong, funny and super sweet. She is always busy doing something or cooking. I have a great deal of admiration for this woman; I would love to be (if I get there) at least at my 60 years, as sharp and healthy as she is; of course I need to spot eating meat since she has been a vegetarian since she was 40 years old…. I don’t know if that is going to happen!!!
Fire-Men. Station # 35. 11/7/2010.
Photographing these brave men was also so much fun, Chris, Danny, Greg and the others make it look so simple and natural that you would like to wear the uniform to be a firefighter; however it is my opinion that to do their job you not just have to be super brave but also need to have the mind set and heart that says ‘I can jump in fire and save this person’. I have a great deal of appreciation for our women and men in uniform (any uniform). They all were super nice and easy to photograph. They showed me and my kids around the station and shared with us that during their spare time they work at the station’s wood-shop building skate boards which they donate to several non-profit charitable organizations in the Valley. They are so cool. Always giving themselves to the community. I was honored to be allowed to photograph them in their element.
